Kang:
Hu Shi was admitted because he threatened to resign.
Kang, a native of Anyue, Sichuan, is one of the pioneers of China's vernacular poetry. During the May 4th Movement, he, Luo Jialun, Zhang and others were the most important figures in Peking University, but he could hardly get into the gate of Peking University.
19 17, admitted to Peking University. He won the first place in Chinese and English, but got zero in math. Peking University refused to accept him at first, but Hu Shi threatened to resign and Peking University reluctantly accepted him.
Luo Jialun: I was admitted to Peking University.
Luo Jialun was born in Shaoxing, Zhejiang. He was deeply influenced by Chinese studies since childhood, and his parents gave him enlightenment education since childhood. When he was two years old, his mother began to teach him to read and recite short poems; When he grew up, his father often taught him ancient poetry and modern poetry, and personally selected two or three interesting and educational allusions every day to educate him in literature. Luo Jialun has a profound literary accomplishment, because he was influenced by his parents since childhood and laid a good foundation in private schools.
However, this also led to his being very good at literature but not at science. 19 17, 20-year-old Luo Jialun took the entrance examination of Peking University, but the result was dumbfounding. At that time, Luo Jialun got full marks in his composition, and Hu Shi, who changed the paper, appreciated him very much and recommended him to the school admissions committee. However, after reading all Luo Jialun's report cards, the members were very headache, because Luo Jialun's math score turned out to be zero! Other subjects are also average. Finally, President Cai Yuanpei, who presided over the admissions meeting, squeezed through the crowd and accepted Luo Jialun as an exception. As a result, Luo Jialun entered Peking University, majoring in foreign literature.
Luo Jialun became the standard-bearer of "New Culture Movement" with his outstanding literary talent. His "May 4th Declaration" inspired the broad masses of promising young people to rise up and save the country.
Zhong Shu: He got 15 in the math exam and was admitted to Tsinghua University.
Qian Shu was born in Wuxi, Jiangsu. 1929 In the summer, he won the first place in foreign languages and Chinese in Tsinghua University with excellent Chinese and English, which caused a sensation in Tsinghua. Although his math score is only 15, he ranks 57th among the 174 boys officially admitted to Tsinghua.
According to the undergraduate admission standard of Tsinghua University, the average score of freshmen in 1929 Tsinghua University is above 40. It can be seen that the entrance examination questions in Tsinghua were very difficult at that time, with scores below 40. Qian Zhongshu got 15 in mathematics, which was just one of them.
Wu Han: It shocked many famous university teachers.
Wu Han was born in Yiwu, Zhejiang. 1931July, when he was admitted to Peking University, he also enrolled in the history department of Tsinghua University. He was admitted to Tsinghua University with excellent achievements in literature and history, ranking fourth.
From 65438 to 0927, after graduating from Zhejiang No.7 Middle School, Wu Han became a rural teacher and was admitted to Hangzhou Zhijiang University Foundation. Unexpectedly, one year later,1June, 928, due to the shortage of funds, the old headmaster Fei Peide resigned and the new headmaster Zhu Jingnong did not take office. Zhijiang University was closed; 1929, Wu Han was admitted to Wusong private university, and was a preparatory student of China College. Because of its profound historical foundation and outstanding talent, it won the appreciation of President Hu Shi. While studying Hu Shi's "A Course of China Cultural History", his homework was published publicly, leaving his own mark in the academic circles.
1930, Hu Shi became a professor at Peking University, and Wu Han followed Hu Shi and decided to apply for the history department of Peking University. At the same time, on the recommendation of Hu Shi, Wu Han went to yenching university Library in Beiping as a librarian. 193 1 at the beginning of the year, he resigned from his temporary job in Yan _ da and devoted himself to the preparation for the university.
Hu Shi admitted to Tsinghua and asked President Tsinghua to take care of him. With the help of Feng Youlan, president of the College of Arts and Sciences, and Jiang Tingfu, director of the Department of History, Wu Han received the highest treatment of work-study program. University professors Gu Jiegang and Hong also persuaded Wu Han to return to the university, and got him a position in the Harvard Yanjing Society.
Wu Han's admission shocked the leading figures of liberal arts in three famous universities and showed his outstanding historical talent.
Cang Kejia: Math 0, composition 98.
Cang Kejia was born in Zhucheng, Shandong. 1930, with zero in mathematics and the highest score in composition, was admitted to National Qingdao University. At this time, Cang Kejia had been studying in the cram school of Qingdao University for half a year, and then took the exam after taking a leave of absence due to illness. At that time, Wen Yiduo was the dean of the College of Literature and the head of the Chinese Department of Qingdao University. He wrote two essay questions on the Chinese examination paper of the freshman entrance examination. One is "Why did you apply for Qingdao University" and the other is "Miscellaneous feelings". Candidates can choose any one.
Cang Kejia gave two topics, among which "Miscellaneous Feeling" only wrote three sentences: "Life will always pursue magic light, but whoever regards magic light as magic light will sink into a bottomless ocean of pain." It was these three sentences that moved the examiner Wen Yiduo and got the highest score of -98. Teacher Wen Yiduo loves talents very much. At his insistence, he accepted Cang Kejia as an exception and made a generation of outstanding poets.
Cang Kejia's learning experience is quite bumpy. Before being admitted to Qingdao University, 1927 was admitted to Wuhan Central Military and Political College, namely Huangpu Military Academy. Whampoa Military Academy has many elites and strict enrollment. Both written and oral tests are acceptable. Besides composition and politics, there is math. If Cang Kejia can pass the exam, his math scores should not be too bad.
After the failure of the Great Revolution, he returned to his hometown and soon fled to the northeast because of persecution by Kuomintang reactionaries. Perhaps it was illness, exile, marriage and having children in the past two years that made Cang Kejia forget all his mathematics knowledge.
Zhou Zumo: Correctly Answer Chen Yinque's "Strange Question".
Zhou Zumo, a Beijinger, is a scholar who studies Chinese characters, phonology, exegesis and philology. 1932, 18 years old, graduated from the middle school affiliated to Beijing Normal University. At that time, colleges and universities nationwide enrolled students separately. He applied for the Chinese Department of Peking University and the English Department of Tsinghua, and both departments were accepted.
One of the Chinese test questions in Peking University is the translation of Du Fu's Song of Autumn Wind Breaking the Cottage, which may be the topic of Hu Shi, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts. He learned this poem in primary school and can recite it, so he didn't encounter any difficulties.
Tsinghua's examination questions are very novel. One problem is the "pairing" titled "Sun Walker", which requires pairing and offline. He is right: first, Wang quoted it; Secondly, Hu Shizhi. Because the fittest goes, "the fittest" is closer to "behavior". In addition, I ching and travelers are opposite in tone level.
Later, he heard that this topic was put forward by teacher Chen Yinque, and the teacher read his answer sheet and was full of praise, although the standard answer was "Zu Chongzhi".
But because it costs 300 yuan a year to enter Tsinghua, and Zhou's family is poor and can't afford it, I finally went to the Chinese Department of Peking University.
