Xiong Qinglai's Educational Experience
193 1 year, Xiong Qinglai, then head of the Department of Arithmetic in Tsinghua University, saw a paper published by 1930, and the reason why Su Jiaju's algebraic quintic equation could not be established. After reading the paper carefully, Xiong Qinglai turned his attention to the author of Hua. This is a strange name. Xiong Qing came to inquire in many ways, and finally learned that Hua dropped out of school at home after graduating from junior high school, and later worked as a clerk in Jintan Middle School. Xiong Qinglai, who is thirsty for talents, immediately tried to invite Hua to Tsinghua and let him have a math class while working. As a result, only a few years later, Hua became a famous mathematician at home and abroad. This is the folk story of Xiong Qinglai's insight into China.

In fact, this is just a microcosm of Xiong Qinglai's life as a great educator whose responsibility is to discover, care for and cultivate talents. From his early years of education to his later years, Xiong Qinglai devoted almost his whole life to the education in China. He personally founded the mathematics departments of three modern universities in China (National Southeast University, Tsinghua University University and Yunnan University) and became a world-renowned and talented educator.

As a professor, Xiong Qinglai teaches tirelessly and lectures very seriously. Xiong qinglai pays attention to compulsory courses. For compulsory courses, "ensure that students can thoroughly understand the theory and master the tools skillfully". He pays attention to the performance of problems and demands students with the spirit of serious performance. Xiong Qinglai likes to come up with inspiring and difficult topics, and a topic needs a lot of thinking to come up, so as to inspire students to open up their minds. He often says to everyone, "The value of mathematical research lies in its extensive participation." Students with high quality have laid a solid foundation through this solid and strict training, and their thinking is also open and flexible. As the head of the department and the president of the university, Xiong Qinglai summed up some successful educational experiences in his work. Xiong Qinglai believes that "professors are responsible for more than half of the school's achievements", so he attaches great importance to the employment of excellent teachers. Xiong Qinglai thinks that strict requirements are the only way to make students become useful talents, so he pays attention to rectifying the style of study, strictly implements the examination system and corrects cheating in exams.

Xiong Qinglai also strongly advocated a strong academic research style, attached importance to academic activities and enlivened the academic atmosphere. He believes that "the importance of a university lies not in its existence, but in its academic life and spirit". To this end, Xiong qinglai made great efforts to provide various conveniences. On the one hand, he bought a lot of books, periodicals and masterpieces to increase the information. On the other hand, he enthusiastically advocated academic exchanges. During his tenure in Tsinghua, he hired two internationally renowned mathematicians, Hadamard and Wiener, to teach in China. He also pays special attention to the form of academic reports. Under his active promotion, from 196 1 to 1964, national or Beijing functional theory conferences are held every year. During that time, he also moved the discussion class to his home. Professors and graduate students get together to discuss academics, which has played a very good role in promoting academic exchanges and development.

In order to cultivate the research atmosphere, Xiong Qinglai also attached great importance to the publication of academic journals and series. From 65438 to 0936, Xiong Qinglai and several other colleagues in the field of mathematics initiated the establishment of China Mathematical Magazine, which is the predecessor of the current Mathematical Magazine and the first mathematical magazine in China. 1938, he founded the Journal of Yunnan University in the second year of his arrival at Yunnan University. Xiong Qinglai's educational thoughts were well displayed during his twelve years as president of Yunnan University from 1937 to 1949. In the innovation of Yunnan University, he clearly put forward five ways to improve it: selecting teachers carefully and improving the status of the school; Strict examination to improve students' quality; Rectify school discipline; Enrich the equipment; Cultivate research atmosphere. Results remarkable results have been achieved. 12 years, he turned Yunnan University into a university with complete categories, similar level and scale, and among the top universities in China.
