Hu has long been engaged in the study of differential geometry. He studied the deformation theory of hypersurfaces and the characteristics of constant curvature space in his early days, and developed and perfected the work of several famous mathematicians. In the study of gauge field clustering phenomenon and the determination of spherical symmetric gauge potential, important achievements with great difficulty and high level have been made. In the study of line sink theory, Toda equation and harmonic mapping, the geometric theory of soliton is developed.

1945, after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Hu was admitted to the Department of Mathematics of Jiaotong University. 1950 1 graduated from the Department of Mathematics and Science of Daxia University (now East China Normal University).
