Esi characteristics
The database of basic scientific indicators (ESI for short) is a basic analysis and evaluation tool to measure the performance of scientific research and track the development trend of science, which was launched by ISI, a world-famous academic information publishing institution in the United States, in 20001. After the reorganization of ISI assets, ESI became a part of Thomson Reuters.
ESI is a quantitative analysis database established by Thomson Reuters based on more than11000 literature records of more than 1,000 academic journals in the world, which are included in SCI and SSCI social science citation indexes. ESI has become one of the important index tools widely used in the world to evaluate the international academic level and influence of universities, academic institutions and countries/regions.
The 22 disciplines offered by ESI are: biology and biochemistry, chemistry, computer science, economics and commerce, engineering, earth science, materials science, mathematics, comprehensive interdisciplinary, physics, social science, space science, agricultural science, clinical medicine, molecular biology and genetics, neuroscience and behavior, immunology, psychiatry and psychology, microbiology, environmental science and ecology, botany and zoology.
