Studying in Singapore: What does the SM3 Scholarship written test include?
Singapore Scholarship Examination SM3 (Senior 3) is a cooperative study abroad program between Singapore and the Ministry of Education of China during the new diplomatic relations in 1990. Singapore's Ministry of Education, on behalf of two famous universities, National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University, signs contracts with more than ten universities in China every year to select outstanding students from freshmen and provide full scholarships and living allowances. By 20 1 1, there have been 20 sessions. The written test items include: comprehensive ability test, mathematics and English.

First, comprehensive ability test: It is said that comprehensive ability test is a very important one of the three exams. The so-called comprehensive ability is actually an IQ test. The invigilator will give you exercise books first, and then lead the candidates to do several questions together to familiarize you with the questions. These problems don't count, and they don't need to be done all, just to keep warm. Then the invigilator will give the examinee a real exercise book for the exam. There are 36 questions in the exercise book, all of which are illustrated and logical, and do not involve numbers. Candidates are required to complete within 40 minutes. These problems are from easy to difficult. The first 2 1 question is very simple. Generally, each problem can be solved in 10 seconds or more than 20 seconds. The last 15 problem will be more difficult, and some problems will take 1 minute or even a few minutes to solve. Therefore, we must grasp the time, do the easy questions in front quickly and accurately, and leave enough time to answer the difficult questions behind. The specific body shape is exactly the same as the questions on the website given below.

After you finish, you can see your IQ by clicking on the paper, but the answers to the questions on this website have not been published yet. If you want to do some exercises with answers.

Second, the math exam:

The number of questions in the math exam changes every year, usually 10 multiple-choice questions and 4-6 solutions. Take 2007 as an example, the test paper includes 10 multiple-choice questions (one of five, 4 points for each question, * * 40 points) and 4 analytical questions (0/5 points for each question, * * 60 points), with a total score of 100 points. The difficulty of the total test paper is close to the difficulty of the initial test of the national high school mathematics league, but it is easier.

The range of mathematics test questions includes function, trigonometric function, sequence, inequality, binary theorem, combination and arrangement, geometry and plane geometry. It is necessary to review what I learned in junior high school but am not very skilled now, such as plane geometry.

It is worth noting that:

1, the fifth question of the five-choice question is (e) A, B, C and D are all incorrect. In China's math contest exam, you can rule out the option that it is generally impossible to judge or none of the above is correct, while in Singapore's math exam, this option may be the correct answer. Taking the 2007 math test paper as an example, it seems that there should be more than one (E) A, B, C and D, which are all incorrect.

2. There is a question about plane geometry almost every year, and analytic geometry and solid geometry are not tested in the examination paper.

It is best to take a compass, ruler and protractor to take part in the math exam. Sometimes, when you encounter multiple-choice questions about finding the angle of plane geometry or the length of line segments, which are more difficult than teaching, you can make your own drawings in proportion and measure the angle and length with a protractor, saving a lot of time.

You must write out the complete main steps of solving the problem, otherwise you may lose a lot of points.

You can't use calculator in the exam.

Third, the English test:

English exams have different topics every year. Generally, there are two long readings and two cloze tests (or a composition of 400-500 words instead of two cloze tests).

The length of reading and the vocabulary required are similar to the single reading in the American SAT I exam. To be able to read the complete text roughly and complete the answer well, the examinee's vocabulary is required to be above 6500, so vocabulary is the key. Reading topics include less multiple-choice questions, more word-phrase replacement questions and pronoun analysis questions. (Note: SAT is the abbreviation of Scholastic Assessment Test, and it is an exam that American high school students must take to enter American universities. Its importance is equivalent to the national college entrance examination in China, and it is also an important reference for high school students from all over the world to apply for admission and scholarships. )

Multiple choice questions are similar to college entrance examination English.

The word phrase replacement question is to give candidates many words or phrases after reading the article, and ask them to find words or phrases with similar meanings in the article to replace them.

Pronoun analysis requires candidates to point out what or who these pronouns refer to in reading the article.

Cloze is also more difficult than teaching and requires a large vocabulary.

The composition is generally an open argumentative essay, so it is suggested to adopt a clear general-sub-general structure.
