Why is it so difficult to embrace change?
Then the last point of my last article, "What may hinder our progress is what we have",

Today, we will continue to talk about embracing change.

The only constant in the world is change!

This is a sentence that everyone has heard, but how many people can really understand and pay attention to it?

Around 2000, when the Internet wave was about to rise, how many enterprises wasted a lot of time on traditional channels because they didn't keep up with the rhythm?

Around 20 10, the demand for mobile internet is gradually increasing. How many companies are still addicted to the page interaction of traditional PCs?

2020 is coming, and both 5G and AI IOT are clear trends. How many companies are still staring at the past technology?

Enterprise is a bit far, talk about personal level:

You read so many articles about dry goods. How much is meaningful? How many habits can you change and put into action in new ways?

You have 10 years of work experience, but have you re-examined yourself and let yourself go back to the furnace to learn and evolve a new methodology?

I. Keatings Index

Let me talk about a mathematical concept about exploring and embracing change.

The Keatings Index is about making decisions by mathematical methods in life.

The core question of life: Do you want to explore new things, or do you want to continue to gain something from what you already know?

1) restaurant problem

You went to an old restaurant downstairs, went to 15 times, and experienced 6 bad times in 9 times.

Then there's another restaurant you haven't been to. Do you want to go to a new restaurant or continue to eat in the old one?

If you continue to live permanently, you must go to a new place, because you may get a surprise and have a good experience for a long time to come.

Even if there is no surprise, you just lost an evening's experience, which is insignificant compared with your long stay in the future.

If you leave tomorrow, you must go to the old restaurant, because the experience is stable and the most secure.

2) Keatings index is applied to restaurant selection.

According to the complicated Keatings calculation method (a bunch of calculation formulas are omitted here).

If you stay a long time, the Keatings index of the old restaurant is 0.68, and that of the new restaurant is 0.88.

If you leave tomorrow, the new restaurant is below 0.5.

The high number is obviously what we should choose.

3) Exploration and choice of life.

Let's extend the above scene.

For life experience, you will find that young people like to explore, while old people like to chat with the same person, go to the same restaurant and eat the same dish day after day.

Is this the sorrow of the old man?

No, it may be that the old man spent his whole life exploring and made clear his most suitable lifestyle. Later, he no longer needed to explore.

4) Suggestions on Keatings index.

Do you want to embrace change, explore new things, or delve into old things?

It depends on how long you have.

If you have a long time,

Second, the psychological comfort zone

According to the Keatings index above, can't we live like a duck to water?

With this method, theoretically, people will not ignore changes and be old-fashioned and backward!

If you think so, you are wrong.

Regardless of whether everyone knows this method, even if everyone knows it,

Not everyone can execute it well.

That's because,

Humans have another thing against our behavior!

Everyone has a comfort zone.

Psychological comfort zone refers to some psychological patterns that people are used to, and it is the psychological state when you feel familiar and comfortable.

If people's behavior goes beyond these patterns, they will feel insecure, anxious and even afraid.

In life, when we face new jobs and accept new challenges, our hearts will shift from familiar and comfortable areas to stress areas of tension, worry and even fear.

2) the comfort zone that hinders our progress

Boiling frogs in warm water is to describe such a picture.

The so-called comfortable death is probably the problem most of us face.

In essence, the comfort zone is actually the best choice given by genes.

In the evolutionary history of species, human beings have been trying to survive most of the time. In the process of human efforts, we need to consider both efficiency and consumption.

Have habits, processes and methodologies.

Genes make us comfortable, just to guide us to concentrate on using these deterministic ways.

This should make us more efficient.

But the problem is that when the environment changes, the comfort zone makes it impossible for us to meet the change with the most positive attitude.

Because the original way is too comfortable.

Human hormones can't make the brain react quickly unless absolutely necessary.

3) Missed opportunities

Our growth and progress, the iteration of all our knowledge and methods, need to keep up with the changes.

And the comfort zone makes us unable to keep up and fall behind too much.

This will lead to many good opportunities being missed.

In my previous article "I am talking about the future, but you are complaining about the present", I mentioned some examples in the company.

When encountering any new project, the first reaction is that the existing process is inappropriate and the current personnel and resources do not match.

In fact, the essence is the problem of comfort zone.

Third, my suggestion.

1) Adjust your thinking

Keep telling yourself that there is no constant comfort in the world!

The most comfortable thing is to embrace change forever.

This is to keep yourself awake with internal initiative.

2) continuous learning

Study every day, see something new and accept fresh ideas and theories.

Make new friends, open your heart and accept different views and ideas.

Use external stimuli to keep yourself sensitive.

3) Find a role model.

Find one or several outstanding people you admire and observe their practices.

It's not necessarily someone around you, but someone you don't know, as long as you have a way to get his information from all sides.

Keep up with it and don't fall behind.

Imitation and competition are human nature.

Use these two properties to counter the properties of the comfort zone.

Finally, it is also useful to read more of my articles, haha.

I suggest that you can praise the article and attention, so that you can take it out at any time in the future to learn something new.
