What does R 2 mean in statistics?
In statistics, R 2 means: determining the coefficient, the proportion that all changes of dependent variables can be explained by independent variables through regression relations. If R squared is 0.8, the regression relation can explain 80% variation of the dependent variable. In other words, if we can control the independent variable unchanged, the degree of variation of the dependent variable will be reduced by 80%.

Statistics is a comprehensive science that infers the nature of the measured object and even predicts its future by searching, sorting, analyzing and describing the data. Statistics uses a lot of professional knowledge in mathematics and other disciplines, and its application covers almost all fields of social science and natural science.

Extended data:

In statistics, the calculation method and characteristics of r square value;

1. In statistics, the calculation method of R-squared value is: R-squared value = sum of regression squares (ssreg)/ sum of total squares (sstotal), where sum of regression squares = sum of total squares-sum of residual squares (ssresid).

Second, the characteristics of R 2:

1, and the determinable coefficient is a non-negative statistic;

2. The range of determinable coefficient: 0

3. Determinable coefficient is a function of sample observation value, and determinable coefficient R 2 is a random variable that changes with random sampling. Therefore, the statistical reliability of determinable coefficients should also be tested.
