I am a statistics major, and SAS is a professional commercial software, but most of them need programming. It is mostly used for data mining in large enterprises such as telecommunications and banks.

However, SPSS is mostly used in social sciences, and it is completely a black-box menu operation, which is more popular among non-professionals.

In short, SPSS is very easy to use and SAS is very powerful.
