There are no exams. Shanghai is implementing the new college entrance examination, which adopts the 3+3 model, regardless of arts and sciences, of which the first 3 are Chinese, mathematics and foreign languages, the last 3 are three elective subjects, and advanced mathematics is a subject of universities. The college entrance examination examines the examinee's understanding and application of mathematics, not advanced mathematics. The National Unified Entrance Examination for Colleges and Universities, referred to as "College Entrance Examination" for short, is a selective examination for qualified high school graduates or candidates with equivalent academic qualifications in People's Republic of China (PRC) (excluding Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Macao Special Administrative Region and Taiwan Province Province).
