AP calculus course includes calculus AB and calculus BC. Calculus AB is roughly equivalent to the content and difficulty of Chinese liberal arts advanced mathematics 1 semester. Calculus BC is roughly equivalent to the content and difficulty of calculus course in general engineering 1 academic year (2 semesters) in China.

2, the content is different

In content, Calculus BC covers all the contents of AB. See section 1.2 of AP Calculus Tutorial Manual (written by Wu Wenzhong) (AP Calculus AB and BC Outline Requirements) for details. The content with "#" in AP calculus tutorial manual is required by BC, but not by AB.

3. The exam is different

Because the examination time coincides, AB and BC can only choose one subject within one year, but it is not necessary to take AB first and then BC. If you take Calculus BC, the score of Calculus AB will also be provided on the report card of Calculus BC.

4. Meet the different needs of follow-up study.

For students who choose biochemistry, social science, general business and management in the future, BC basically covers all the teaching contents of the undergraduate course. Getting 5 points and exchanging AP credits means that the university does not need to take calculus courses. For students majoring in mathematics, computer, physics, engineering or economics and finance, BC can meet the requirements of follow-up study quite well.
