My name is Vivienne Liu, and I come from Class 3, Computer Class 2002, School of Information Technology. At this moment, I am very excited. I am very happy to speak here today on behalf of our team. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to speak. In the 2004 "Higher Education Club Cup" national mathematical modeling competition for college students, our group won the first prize in Jilin Province and the first prize in China. In the face of such achievements, I feel extremely gratified and proud, because my past efforts and sweat have finally paid off. But I also know that the achievement can not be achieved without the careful guidance of teachers and our own efforts. Looking back on those days, the hardships of struggle and the joy of success are still vivid.
At the beginning of July, 2004, I saw on the bulletin board of the central teaching building that the teachers of the mathematics group of our college were going to organize and participate in the national mathematical modeling competition for college students. In fact, I didn't know what kind of game it was at that time. I only know that it is a national competition and it is related to mathematics. Later, I learned that it is one of the "four big competitions" in China, and it is a competition that combines mathematical knowledge with computer knowledge to solve practical problems. I think it is meaningful to participate in such a competition, and I have the ability to participate in such a competition. Because I study computer, I have a certain knowledge of mathematics, and I have a strong interest in mathematics and computers. In addition, I have won many first-class and second-class scholarships for non-agricultural majors, so I strive for this opportunity to participate. Finally, after the preliminary and semi-finals, I was fortunate to be a member of the modeling team.
After the team members were selected, the math teacher arranged the training time in the summer vacation. While many students are enjoying the cool at home, our modeling team is in the sultry classroom, listening to the mathematical modeling class that we have never been exposed to before. Mathematical modeling is completely different from our original imagination. But under the teacher's careful explanation, we also understood it carefully and gradually became interested in this course. Starting with a large number of examples, we learned the main content of this course in just a few days. In the next 20 days, we overcame the test of sultry weather, absorbed and received new knowledge overload every day, and completed the course that took at least one semester in more than 20 days. For the first time, I felt that I had such a strong learning ability, and immediately I was full of expectation and confidence in the competition, and I studied all kinds of exercises harder. During the final preparation of the model contest, I read a lot of relevant materials. Bookstores and libraries have gone away from me. In those days, I really realized the value of time for the first time.
Xie Shanfeng and Zhang Shuo and I came together because of common interests and formed a group. Xie Shanfeng is also a computer major of Grade 02. He has a high enthusiasm for mathematics, and he is meticulous in his study of mathematics at ordinary times, and he has been among the best in several mathematics exams. He has won many scholarships for non-agricultural majors and Jilin Province. In order to participate in this mathematical modeling competition, he read many extracurricular books and accumulated rich mathematical methods and practical experience. Not only that, he also paid special attention to the basic study of mathematics. His solid mathematical foundation and a lot of mathematical experience have become valuable assets for our group to succeed. Another member of my team is Zhang Shuo, a student majoring in information in Grade 03. Her grades are also excellent, and she has won many scholarships for non-agricultural majors and Jilin Province. She also has a strong interest in mathematics, and has very original opinions on some mathematical problems. As we all know, mathematical analysis and advanced algebra are the most basic courses. Although these two courses are purely theoretical on the surface and have little connection with mathematics to solve practical problems, they are necessary weapons and equipment to solve mathematical problems. Only by laying a good foundation can we master powerful tools such as mathematical software skillfully and flexibly. During the course of studying Advanced Algebra and Mathematical Analysis, Zhang Shuo carefully studied the theories in the book, and at the same time referred to a large number of extracurricular materials, which enabled her to have a thorough and comprehensive understanding of the course and did a lot of exercises, which enabled her to discover many problem-solving skills, and enabled her to have a more agile thinking and a cool head when facing a series of data, symbols and their complex relationships.
On September 22nd, the long-awaited day finally arrived. We will enter a 72-hour continuous battle for three days, three nights. Three days and three nights, for a person's life, is only a short moment; But for us, it is tense, fulfilling and unforgettable. Our group is arranged in an office in the hospital building. In order to seize the time and try not to affect my thinking, I will sleep on my desk when I am tired, and I will chew some bread and make instant noodles when I am hungry. During these three days, all the members of our group carried forward the spirit of unity and cooperation despite difficulties and hardships. When the examination questions were handed out, the topic we chose was "drunk driving", mainly referring to the data to establish a mathematical model of alcohol content in blood after drinking, and discussing: "When is the highest alcohol content in blood?" "If you drink every day, can you still drive?" Wait for a few questions, write a short article and give some advice on how to drive to drivers who want to drink. We and the instructor will take the time to analyze the problem, compare several different models, and finally decide the plan. Then we divide the work, and Xie Shanfeng mainly does model analysis and overall planning. Then we all worked together in Qixin. In the same way, we cleared our minds and made the next plan. I am mainly responsible for consulting materials and verifying theories. A large number of materials and principles dazzled me and made me realize the profoundness of mathematics. Zhang Shuo is mainly responsible for solving and verifying data. Because of the clear division of labor and their respective duties, most of the problems were solved two days ago. But it is more complicated later, especially when the model is improved, we can't sort out a clue. At this time, watching the time pass by, we are very anxious. Finally, after careful analysis, we finally cleared the fog and found the key to solving the problem. On the morning of September 25th, when many students were still asleep, we handed in a satisfactory work. At that time, the joy in my heart diluted all the fatigue since three days.
The game is over. I didn't expect my team to win the prize at that time. I just think the game is a rare opportunity to exercise. It doesn't matter whether we win the prize or not. The important thing is that we have achieved self-transcendence. After taking part in this competition, I benefited a lot and learned a lot that I can't usually learn. I summed it up, mainly as follows:
First, it gave me an unusual hard experience in college. Superior living conditions make our endurance poor, and participating in such activities has exercised my will and perseverance. Three days and three nights of continuous fighting is generally unbearable, but I have experienced it and can face it calmly in the future. At the same time, it also gave me a better understanding of Paul's spirit in How Steel was Tempered. Better understand the connotation of "no pains, no gains" and cultivate the quality of not bowing in the face of difficulties and facing difficulties.
Second, the mathematical modeling competition aims at "innovative consciousness, team spirit, focusing on participation and fair competition", and the model should be novel. To do this, three people must work together in Qi Xin, give full play to their respective strengths, and be willing to accept the opinions and opinions of teammates. Through this competition, I saw the importance of cooperation and realized the efficiency and fun of cooperation. The phrase "two heads are better than one" can better reflect the charm of cooperation in the competition.
Thirdly, I always think that mathematics is a basic subject, which is useless in real life. It is not as important as computers and English. For a long time, people always associate mathematics with boring, monotonous and boring words. However, through this mathematical modeling competition, I really realized that mathematics also has its place in real life. Many problems in our life can be modeled with mathematical knowledge to get ideal answers. The application scope of mathematics is no worse than other disciplines.
Fourth, whatever you do, you should set out towards the ideal in your heart. As long as we want to do something, we should work hard. What others can do, you can certainly do it. Take this mathematical modeling competition as an example. Two students from the College of Engineering and Technology also took part in it, and won the second prize in Jilin Province, which was quite good. Therefore, I think: everyone's opportunities are equal, there will be no pie in the sky, and opportunities must be won by themselves. Give yourself a wing and let it fly freely!
On February 20th, 65438, the sunshine in winter was particularly warm. The math lecture hall of the South School of Jilin University is full of students from major universities in Jilin Province. I was fortunate to sit with them and exchange experiences. When I stood on the stage with two groups of award-winning students from Jilin University to receive the national first prize, I was deeply moved by the warm applause from the audience. At the same time, I am extremely proud that I can stand on this podium as a student of Agricultural University. It was the fertile soil of Agricultural University that educated me, so that I could not only compete with them, but also beat them. I also deeply feel that it doesn't matter what kind of school you are in. It is important to have a heart that beats for the ideal and a tenacious will, and never sell yourself short. As a college student, as long as we are confident, willing to work hard and study hard, there will always be opportunities to show ourselves on the stage of life.
We won the prize, perhaps this is what many people pursue, but for me: this is my extra gain, it has become the past, and I will start all over again. But the course of mathematical modeling competition is vivid, and my gains in this course will always accompany my future life, work and study.
