What is the American Mathematics Competition AMC?
AMC is the abbreviation of American Mathematics Competition. Problems range from simple to difficult, so that students at any level can feel the challenge and screen out people with unique talents. This competition is developed for all students who love mathematics.

Event setting

AMC is divided into AMC8, AMC 10 and AMC 12. Those who have performed well in AMC 10 and AMC 12 can participate in the AIME Invitational Tournament.

I. AMC8

1, held once a year, is open to students of grade 8 and below (corresponding to domestic 1 and grade 2 students, and some excellent students of grade 4 and grade 6 in primary schools can also participate). Students who get high marks in AMC8 will be invited to participate in AMC 10 competition with the permission of the school.

2. Examination topics include but are not limited to: counting and probability, estimation, proportional reasoning, including the basic geometry of Pythagorean theorem, spatial visualization, daily application, and reading and interpretation of charts. In addition, some difficult problems may involve topics such as linear or quadratic functions and equations, coordinate geometry, etc. involved in traditional algebra courses.

Ii. AMC 10

1, for high school students and junior high school students. The main purpose is to stimulate students' interest in mathematics through multiple-choice questions and develop their mathematical talent; The test questions are from easy to difficult.

2. Another special purpose of 2.AMC 10/0 is to discover some students who are gifted in mathematics and make the school pay attention to their existence.

3.AMC 10 covers mathematics usually related to grade 9 and grade 10: basic geometric knowledge, including Pythagorean theorem, area and volume formulas; Basic number theory and basic probability.

Three. AMC 12

1, held every year for students of grade 12 and below (corresponding to domestic senior one and senior two students). AMC 12 in 2002 was held in early February and mid-February respectively. Participants can choose one of them to participate.

2. AMC 12 exam content includes basic knowledge of geometry, including Pythagorean theorem, area and volume formulas; Basic number theory and basic probability. It covers the whole high school mathematics curriculum, trigonometry, advanced algebra and advanced geometry, but does not include calculus.

Four. AIME invitational tournament

1. Only students who scored above 100 in the AMC 12 test or scored in the top 5% of all participants in the AMC 10 test and scored in the top 1% of all participants can be invited to take the AIME math exam.

2. The examination questions are quite difficult, and candidates generally can't get the correct answer by guessing.

3.AIME's examination contents include (but are not limited to) integers, fractions, decimals, percentages, proportions, number theory, daily geometry, area, volume, probability statistics, logical reasoning, etc.
