1896, Mining and Chemistry School was merged into Hadron School.
1902, Qiangzi School moved to Dongchangkou, Wuchang, and was renamed Dialect School.
19 1 1 year, dialect schools were forced to close down.

1926, National Wuchang University, National Commercial University, Provincial Medical University, Provincial Law University, Provincial Liberal Arts University and Private Wenhua University merged to form National Wuchang Sun Yat-sen University. There are undergraduate departments and two departments, namely, six departments of literature, science, law, classics, medicine and preparatory course, 17 departments.
1928, Wuchang National Sun Yat-sen University was reorganized and National Wuhan University was established. There are four colleges of art, science, engineering and law.
1932, moved from Wuchang Dongchangkou to Luojiashan new teaching building.
1936 Agricultural College was established, and now it has become a comprehensive university with five colleges of arts, law, science, industry and agriculture, 15 department and two research institutes.
1938, the school moved to Leshan, Sichuan, and the Agricultural College was merged into the Central University.
1946 agricultural college was restored and medical college was established. Wuhan University moved back to Luojiashan, Wuchang. There are 6 colleges of literature, law, science, engineering, agriculture and medicine, 2 1 department and 8 research institutes.
1950 The Water Conservancy Department of Hunan University was transferred to Wuhan University and merged with the Civil Engineering Department to form the Water Conservancy Department. The Medical College of Wuhan University was separated from Wuhan University and merged with the Medical College of Tongji University in Shanghai to form the Central South Tongji Medical College.
1952 the water conservancy departments of Henan university and other schools were placed under Wuhan university, and merged with the water conservancy department of Wuhan university to form the water conservancy college. The Agricultural College of Wuhan University was separated from Wuhan University and merged with Hubei Agricultural College to form Huazhong Agricultural College. The Department of Philosophy was merged into Peking University, and the Department of Mining and Metallurgy was transferred to Central South Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.
1953, the Institute of Technology was separated from Wuhan University and Huazhong Institute of Technology was established.
1954, the Institute of Water Conservancy was separated from Wuhan University and established as Wuhan Institute of Water Conservancy.
1956, restoring the Department of Philosophy.

1966, Xiangyang branch was established in Longzhong, Xiangyang, northwest Hubei.
1970 Shayang Campus in Jingzhou, Hubei Province was established.

1999 reorganized departments, and merged from 16 college and three directly affiliated departments into nine colleges, namely, humanities college, law school, business school, foreign language and literature college, mass communication and knowledge information management college, mathematics and computer science college, life science college, physics and electronic information science college, and chemistry and environmental science college.
On August 2, 2000, Wuhan University, Wuhan University of Water Resources and Electric Power, Wuhan Technical University of Surveying and Mapping and Hubei Medical University merged to form the new Wuhan University.
