(1)∵ quadrilateral ABCD is a rectangle,

∴∠D=∠B=90,CD=AB=6cm,AD=BC=8cm,

In Rt△ABC, AC= AB 2 +BC 2 = 10(cm),

Let DE=xcm,

According to the nature of folding, EF=DE=xcm, CF=CD=6cm, ∠ EFC = ∠ d = 90,

∴∠AFE=90,AE=AD-DE=8-x(cm),AF=AC-CF= 10-6=4(cm)

In Rt△AEF, AE 2 =AF 2 +EF 2.

Namely, (8-x) 2 = 16+x 2,

Solution: x=3,

∴de=3cm;

(2)∫AE = AD-DE = 8-3 =(5cm),

∴S trapezoid abce =12 (AE+BC)? AB= 1 2 ×(5+8)×6=39(cm 2)。

∴ The area of cutting trapezoidal ABCE is 39cm2.
