The Origin of China Counting Method
People in China often use the stroke of "positive" when counting. One "Zheng" has five graphs, representing five, two "Zheng" characters are 10, and so on. This counting method is easy to understand and very popular in China.
At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, the opera garden (commonly known as tea garden) was an important entertainment place in people's daily life. There are many audiences in the theater every day. But there was no such thing as tickets at that time, so the theater arranged a "case" (now called a waiter) at the entrance of the theater to attract tourists. When five people were seated, the clerk (Mr. Bookkeeper) wrote the word "Zheng" on the big water board (similar to the blackboard) and marked the name of a case. There is a square table in front of the seat, and visitors can watch the play while drinking tea. Later projects will be responsible for counting charges. It was accurate when I checked out.
This method was abandoned with the implementation of the ticket system in cinemas, but as a simple, easy-to-understand and convenient notation, it has been deeply loved by the people. Today, many people in China still keep the habit of counting with the word "positive" when counting tickets and property.
