Gumbel distribution is a common method to calculate the "once-in-many-year" marine hydrometeorological elements by using frequency curve according to theory. This algorithm has been widely used in some western countries. Gumbel distribution is widely used to calculate the maximum wind speed.
Gambert distribution is derived from extreme value theorem. R. A. Fisher and L. H. C. Tippett found in 1928 that the probability distribution function of the maximum value x of each sample tends to the generalized extreme value distribution.
Gumbel distribution is mainly used in ocean, hydrology and meteorology to calculate the annual maximum water level of the extremely high (low) tide level ocean in different return periods, which can be considered to be formed by astronomical tide and many random factors. So it can be fitted by Gumbel extreme value I distribution function.
