Why is Wenzhou's license plate Zhejiang C?
At present, China uses 92 motor vehicle number plates. The first two digits are abbreviated in Chinese characters of provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government, and an English letter represents the license plate number. The arrangement rules of English letters in different provinces are slightly different, but most of them are arranged according to the prefecture-level administrative division code of 1992.

In the ranking of a province's prefecture-level administrative divisions, the first principle is that the provincial capital ranks first, the prefecture-level city ranks second, the regional administrative office ranks third, the autonomous prefecture ranks fourth, and finally the county-level administrative unit directly under the provincial government.

For Zhejiang Province, Hangzhou ranks first (provincial capital), Ningbo ranks second (cities with separate plans), Wenzhou ranks third (comprehensive strength), and the other eight prefecture-level cities rank lower.

The ranking order of each prefecture-level city was the status at that time, and after more than 20 years, the comprehensive strength of each city has also changed, but the license plate number has continued to this day.
