He participated in the collective compilation of Li Xiang Kao Cheng and Yi Xiang Kao Cheng, and was usually responsible for compiling constitutional books of each year and forecasting solar eclipses. During the Qianlong period, he went to Xinjiang twice for surveying and mapping, determined the geographical latitude by measuring the noon arc of the sun, and determined the east-west skewness, that is, longitude, by observing the solar eclipse. At the same time, he used triangulation method to compile the Xinjiang part of the empire map on the basis of measurement.
