Wen Yuan and Zu Chongzhi were famous mathematicians, astronomers and machinery manufacturers in the Southern and Northern Dynasties.

Zu Chongzhi's ancestral home is Kuai County, Fanyang County. In order to escape the war, Zu Chongzhi's grandfather, Zuchang, moved from Hebei to Jiangnan. Zuchang was a great craftsman in Liu and Song Dynasties, in charge of civil engineering. Zu Chongzhi's father is also a DPRK official, so he is knowledgeable and respected.

Zu Chongzhi was born in Jiankang in 429 AD. His ancestral home has been studying astronomy and calendars for generations. Zu Chongzhi was exposed to astronomy and mathematics since he was a child. Zu Chongzhi gained a reputation as a learned man when he was young. When Emperor Xiaowu of Song heard about it, he was sent to China Forestry University to do research work.

In 46 1 year, he worked in the secretariat of southern Xuzhou, and served successively in southern Xuzhou.
