Do you have to have high IQ and mathematical talent to engage in mathematical research?
I don't think so.

IQ can't reflect a person's creativity. At least I think some indicators describing IQ can't explain a person's intelligence level at all. I've also taken an IQ test, but I don't think that kind of question can be used to judge whether a person has mathematical ability at all. So I don't think the IQ mentioned in rat0252 can be a valuable measure.

In fact, I can't find a test standard that can explain a person's mathematical ability.

I think that engaging in mathematical research requires persistence (thinking about problems to be solved in all spare time) and keen observation ability (drawing as many conclusions as possible from as little information as possible), and the most important thing is interest and personality.

But I really don't know what kind of quality is called "mathematical talent", so it is not the ability to solve problems, right? Question ability, or overall planning and imagination?

I think RP is still very important, at least now many people mix papers for non-scientific purposes. If your pursuit is money, I think it's useless to have any talent. Nakata hidetoshi, a Japanese footballer, is very talented in football, but he said, "Football is just a means to make a living for me". Then he gradually disappeared. I think many things are the same. If the motivation is not pure, it seems that talents will be buried.

I said RP is more important, not personality. Character is only a necessary condition. I don't deny that a master of mathematics needs a good talent. But I think that a real master of mathematics must have his own personality charm while having good mathematical talent.
