The American Mathematical Society (AMS) recently announced the list of newly elected academicians, and Du Qiang, a graduate of China University of Science and Technology (USTC) and a professor at Columbia University, was elected as an AMS academician.

Up to now, a total of 9 people have been elected as AMS researchers, namely Shu Qiwang, Yuan Yaxiang, Chen Xiuxiong, Li Congming, Wang Weiqiang, Wang Zhenghan, Li Yanyan, E Weinan and Du Qiang. These outstanding people congratulate our alumni. This is the first time that UTC graduates have been selected as AMS researchers.

Applied mathematicians and computational scientists. His main research interests are numerical solutions of partial differential equations and their applications in materials, biology and computational geometry. 1980 Graduated from Mathematics Department of China University of Science and Technology, and then went to study in the United States.

Received a doctorate from Carnegie Mellon University. He is currently the Chairman of Applied Mathematics of the Fourier Foundation of Columbia University, the Director of Applied Mathematics Course of the School of Engineering of Columbia University, and a member of the Institute of Data Science. He is a member of the American Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the American Mathematical Society, and also the winner of the Feng Kang Prize for Scientific Computing.
