Mathematics is a basic science. Biology is a natural science and needs mathematical knowledge to learn. For example, understanding a community of an ecosystem requires statistical knowledge; Genetics also needs some simple knowledge of permutation and combination. The examples I cited are all very basic needs. The higher the research level, the higher the requirements for mathematics.
