The formula of sawing wood in the third grade
There are two formulas for sawing wood in grade three:

1: number of wood segments = times of sawing wood+1.

2: Sawing times of wood = number of wood segments-1

Example 1: It takes 40 minutes to saw a piece of wood into the same 6 segments. How many minutes does it take each time?

Analysis: The problem of sawing wood is the most easily encountered problem in our daily math problem training in senior two. When encountering such problems, we should first understand the meaning of the problem, and then establish mathematical thinking in connection with life situations. We can use a line diagram to represent the schematic diagram of sawing wood.

Sawing a piece of wood into the same six sections, the number of saws is less than the number of sections 1, it needs to be sawed five times, and it takes 40 minutes to saw five times.

So it takes 40÷5=8 (minutes) each time.

The formula is as follows: 6- 1=5 (times) 40÷5=8 (minutes)
