Urban traffic signal control is to improve the safe transportation of people and goods and improve operational efficiency by regulating traffic flow. Traffic system is a complex system with randomness, fuzziness and uncertainty. It is very difficult to establish a mathematical model, and sometimes it can't even be described by existing mathematical methods. At present, most of them adopt adaptive signal control, which needs mathematical modeling, regardless of traffic delay and parking times. Therefore, the classical control method is difficult to get satisfactory results. Fuzzy control is a control method without establishing a mathematical model, which can imitate the thinking of experienced traffic police when directing traffic and achieve good control effect. In recent years, many scholars in China have also studied the fuzzy control of single intersection and traffic trunk line with different ideas, but due to the limitations of the research, it is rarely applied in practice. In this paper, a traffic signal fuzzy control system based on PLC is realized.
According to the theoretical research results of fuzzy control system for determining the timing of traffic lights, the fuzzy control method of traffic lights at single intersection is realized by PLC. Taking four-phase traffic lights at a single intersection as an example, PLC is used as a fuzzy controller and ladder diagram is used for programming. Experiments ensure that the system runs stably and reliably, can make fuzzy control decisions according to different traffic flows, and optimize the signal timing, which effectively solves the problems caused by unbalanced and unstable traffic flows.

Adopting the most adaptive signal control, it needs a mathematical model, regardless of traffic delay, and fuzzy control is a mathematical model control method, which can imitate the idea of experienced police commanding traffic and achieve good control effect. In recent years, many scholars in China have studied the different ideas of a single intersection and the fuzzy traffic control route. However, due to the scholars' theory and research, there are not many practical applications. Based on this achievement, the traffic signal fuzzy PLC control system.
According to the theoretical research results of fuzzy control system to determine signal distribution and flow, the fuzzy PLC control method of traffic lights at a single intersection is realized. Taking the traffic lights at four phases at a single intersection as an example, PLC is used as fuzzy signal controller and ladder diagram programming is adopted. Experiments show that the system runs reliably, can optimize signal distribution according to different fuzzy traffic control decisions, and can effectively solve the problems caused by unbalanced and unstable traffic.
