Communication engineering is one of the earliest specialties offered by our college. This major began to recruit undergraduates from 1978. Up to now, * * * has enrolled 27 undergraduates and awarded 23 bachelor's degrees. Communication engineering, including mobile communication and computer communication. Each major direction closely combines the development of modern communication and information technology, and attaches importance to the cultivation of modern communication basic theory and engineering literacy. Both have the same subject foundation and their own professional characteristics. Major courses include: fundamentals of circuit analysis, pulse and digital circuits, signals and systems, analog electronic circuits, microcomputer principles and applications, modern communication principles, modern switching technologies, data communication and computer networks, TCP/IP protocol principles, satellite communication and VSAT systems, mobile communications, wireless network technologies, software radio technologies, microwave technologies and antennas, electromagnetic fields and electromagnetic waves, design and application of digital signal processing (DSP) embedded systems, etc.

We always adhere to the basic principle of teaching as the center, make full use of the characteristics and advantages of the combination of electronic information, communication technology and atmospheric science in our college, actively carry out teaching research and teaching reform, constantly introduce new knowledge and technology, update teaching content and improve teaching methods and means. At present, the Department of Communication Engineering has specialized laboratories such as communication principle laboratory, data communication laboratory, modern switching principle laboratory and satellite communication and VSAT system laboratory. At the same time, it also has basic platform laboratories such as embedded system laboratory, electronic design automation (EDA) laboratory, electronic technology basic laboratory, DSP laboratory, electronic engineering practice center and student electronic design open laboratory, which provide students with good experimental conditions and practice environment. It has achieved good results in cultivating students' practical ability and broadening their knowledge. In the past three years, many students have won prizes in Sichuan Division in the National Mathematical Modeling Competition for College Students and the National Electronic Design Competition. Every year, many outstanding graduates are admitted to key universities such as University of Electronic Science and Technology of China and Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications to pursue master's degrees. Some excellent junior three students enter the teacher's research room, participate in project research and design products. We also actively encourage students in our department to participate in various forms of scientific and technological activities such as school-level mathematical modeling competition, electronic design competition and web design competition, so as to improve their practical ability.

Over the years, our department has sent a group of communication engineering professionals with solid professional foundation and strong hands-on ability to the China Meteorological Bureau's provincial, municipal and regional bureaus, China civil aviation system, national defense forces, satellite launch bases, universities, military academies, IT companies, secondary vocational schools and other departments. At present, quite a few of the business backbones engaged in electronic communication in China's meteorological system and civil aviation system have graduated from our college majoring in communication engineering. Many of them have senior technical titles, and some have taken up important leadership positions at all levels. Dr. Yang Yuhang, Assistant to the President of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Chief Consultant of Shanghai Information Port and President of Great Wall Broadband Network Company; Professor Zeng Qing 'an from the University of Cincinnati, USA; Dr. Lu Bin, vice president of Sichuan Unicom, is one of the best. In recent years, with the adjustment of the subordinate relationship and specialty of universities by the state, the specialty of communication engineering has expanded from the service meteorological system at the beginning of construction to a wide-caliber specialty to meet the needs of society. In recent years, 70% of the graduates of this major have been employed by communication IT companies, scientific research institutions and universities (such as China Unicom, Telecom, Dongfang Electronics, Huawei, Philips, NEC, Besson and other well-known enterprises). In the past three years, the one-time employment rate of graduates has been above 95%. Many students who won the competition were robbed by Taiwan Province Lingyang Company, Shanghai Dibit Company and Guangzhou Zhou Ligong Company, and many of them have become technical backbones of these companies.

As an important branch of science and technology and one of the pillar industries of the national economy, communication and information technology are developing at an extraordinary speed in the world. The development level of information technology represented by IT technology has become an important symbol of a country's scientific and technological level.
