He was a cook and later became a famous mathematician. How did he fight back?
Originally a chef, how did he become a mathematician, be elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and even hold important positions in international organizations?

Ma Zhiming was born in Chengdu, Sichuan, at the beginning of 1948. When he graduated from high school, it coincided with the country's call for young intellectuals to go to the countryside, and he went to the countryside with his classmates and friends. He worked as a chef in Panzhihua, Sichuan, and was responsible for cooking for more than 100 people. At first, he didn't adapt to this kind of life, and gradually got used to it, and he did well.

In Ma Zhiming's mind, there has always been a wish-to study mathematics and become a mathematician. He doesn't particularly like math because a pack of math books changed his mind. When he was in junior high school, he went to his classmate Fang Ping's house to play and found that Fang Ping's bookshelf was full of books on mathematics. Fang Ping told him that these books belonged to his mother Zhang Fang. Zhang Fang is very generous. He told Ma Zhiming what books he liked and took them away. You're welcome. By a strange coincidence, he took a bag of math books home and taught himself these books. He started from the simplest and gradually increased the difficulty, which made him find the fun of learning mathematics.

When he went to the countryside, Ma Zhiming also took a math book. In his spare time, he will take it out to study and learn more and more. Later, when I became a warehouse keeper, I needed to do a lot of physical labor every day, but I still found time to study math. 1975, Ma Zhiming was admitted to the Mathematics Department of Chongqing Normal University by virtue of her strength, and her dream was about to come true. He was very excited. After graduating from Chongqing Normal University, he did not stop studying, and was admitted to the University of Science and Technology of China as the first batch of graduate students after the turbulent period.

198 1, Ma Zhiming worked in the Institute of Applied Mathematics of China Academy of Sciences after graduation, and served as deputy director and director. 1987 won Humboldt Scholarship and went to Bi Bo Randomized Research Center for cooperative research. He used to be an international expert in the European isomorphism research project of Bonn University, Germany, and a visiting mathematician at the Italian International Center for Theoretical Physics. From 65438 to 0994, he was invited to give a speech at the 22nd International Congress of Mathematicians. He was the fifth mainland mathematician to give a speech at the congress after China and Chen Jingrun. 1995, Ma Zhiming was elected as an academician of China Academy of Sciences, and became an academician of the Third World Academy of Sciences four years later.

Ma Zhiming mainly studied probability theory and stochastic analysis, and cooperated with others to establish a new framework of one-to-one correspondence between quasi-regular Dirichlet type and right continuous Markov process. In addition, he also studied the singular potential theory, Feynman integral, the probability solution of Schrodinger equation and so on. In 2002, he was elected as the chairman of the organizing committee of the International Congress of Mathematicians. In 2006, he became the first person in China to serve as the vice chairman of the International Mathematical Union, which shows how high his international status is. It never occurred to anyone that Ma Zhiming, a famous mathematician, was once a cook.
