The following is my [subjective] view from the perspective of a student like me, which does not involve the academic level of the teacher.
While thinking about learning, we talk about the process of learning.
I have been studying since the third grade. I think a large number of students in Shanghai will study Olympic Mathematics, but the difference is that I was not asked by my parents to sign up for study, but after someone introduced this institution, I basically asked to attend classes on my own initiative (even my parents didn't agree at first). Let's not talk about the academic level of teachers for the time being, but the way of class (perhaps the result of institutional research) can really stimulate the interest of many students. As for the formal primary school curriculum (mainly mathematics), it is relatively rigid and has no difficulty. In the Olympiad class where I studied and thought, I was also the second best student in the class from beginning to end (the first place was actually promoted later and raised to the first place).
Next view:
First of all, there is absolutely no denying the usefulness of primary school olympiad in the whole learning process, which is definitely to improve thinking.
Secondly, interest-oriented teaching really plays a great role in the teaching of teachers who think about learning, and the participation of the whole class is extremely high.
Third, most students may be forced to go to school by their parents, but from my point of view, there was almost no one in my class who didn't like this course at that time. The teacher may be meritorious.
Fourth, I don't know which extracurricular tutoring institutions have instigated Xiaoshengchu so much, but at least, there is a gap between private and public in Shanghai, such as Huayu Business Daily, which is really better.
Fifth, about schoolwork pressure. As a Xiamen student who can't go to Shanghai because of the hukou problem, my junior high school is really less stressful than my primary school. But I make up lessons in primary school on weekends entirely based on my own interests and preferences. I don't know the rest. For me, I like this. Even if there is some pressure, it must not come from the worry in junior high school, but from the occupied weekend time.
I seem to be saying good things about learning and thinking from beginning to end. After all, I've said it's subjective. However, as a student who was mainly interested in learning at that time, regardless of the price, such an institution was absolutely excellent. If there is any shortcoming, it is that I don't like the small and rigid cram school that is common in Xiamen now (laughs).
But looking back, it's another matter to register for junior high school involuntarily, which only puts a lot of pressure on students and may not be effective. All competitions must be completed on the basis of interest+intelligence, and coercion is definitely not acceptable.
