By my side, my friend's children are still in kindergarten, but they show special talent in mathematics.
The child's parents didn't send him to extra-curricular cram school, but the child didn't know the addition, subtraction, multiplication and division within two digits. The calculation process was very fast and admirable. Not only that, but during the daily elevator ride, the little guy also learned the addition and subtraction of negative numbers, and he is an out-and-out "little genius".
This friend is also a graduate of ten famous universities in China. Seeing children's talent in mathematics, I am still a little worried, so that I often go to the Olympic Mathematics training institutions to listen to the teachers' open classes, take the initiative to consult the parents of the great gods of mathematics competitions, and visit around to find the best "parenting classics".
So, how can parents cultivate children with special talents in mathematics?
As a friend more than ten years ago, I also experienced such worries. My child is very sensitive to mathematics since he was a child, and he also has some talents in mathematics. In the second grade of primary school, they solved a math problem that the fifth grade students didn't solve, which took less than two minutes. That night, the head teacher called and said that the child was very talented in mathematics, reminding us to pay more attention to training methods and education.
After more than ten years of hard work, the child finally lived up to expectations and was successfully admitted to one of the top universities in China.
From the perspective of entering a higher school, I have made some explorations in cultivating children with particularly good mathematical talents. I will not talk about my experience, so I will share it with you. My experience has three points:
First of all, parents should be confident. Many parents are envious of having a clever child in other people's home. They think it will be easier for parents to educate if their children are smarter. Actually, it's not. The smarter a child is, the more talented he is in math or a certain field, and the greater the pressure on parents in education. They are worried that they can't train their children well, lack confidence in educating their children well, and are indecisive and in a dilemma in planning their children's education roadmap and timetable.
It is good for parents to have such worries, but at the same time, they should have confidence in educating their children to grow up healthily. Tell yourself that since you can give birth to a child with special talent in mathematics, you certainly have the ability and confidence to train and develop this child well.
Of course, confidence does not come out of thin air. The essence of trouble is the lack of educational knowledge and the panic of educational skills. Only when you are worried, can you have a sense of urgency, take the initiative to learn, consciously "recharge", constantly update your educational concepts, enrich your parenting knowledge, and then continuously enhance your educational ability. Only by being a learning parent can we have and maintain confidence in educating smart children.
Secondly, parents should guide their children's talent in mathematics according to the situation. This talent is called "potential". As parents, we must go with the flow and conform to the trend.
According to children's learning characteristics, we should tap all available educational resources and cultivate children's mathematical expertise. According to children's interests and wishes, arrange some extracurricular training such as Olympiad, Go and abacus mental arithmetic to cultivate children's mathematical ability.
Although some academicians in the field of mathematics don't recommend most children to study Olympiad, children who have special mathematical talents since childhood are not among them.
My children began to learn olympiad in the third grade of primary school. At that time, the Olympiad competition in primary schools was not completely banned. Later, they persisted in high school and never stopped learning math competitions. Even now entering the university stage, the performance of advanced mathematics courses is still brilliant.
Regarding children's education, I have always advocated teaching students in accordance with their aptitude. For those children who are gifted in mathematics, it seems to be a waste of IQ to prevent them from contacting and learning the Olympic Mathematics.
Olympiad is not very friendly, but for children with mathematical talent, proper training is conducive to cultivating and exerting their specialties, which is extremely beneficial to the study and growth of junior high school and senior high school. Some children even directly knocked on the doors of Tsinghua and Peking University by virtue of the results of the national mathematics competition for middle school students.
Thirdly, parents should edify children who are used to mathematics, which is recognized as children with high IQ. Such children have a unique advantage in learning. If it is supplemented by good study habits, it will be even more powerful, just like a bloody BMW with a good saddle, and success is just around the corner.
Children's reading habits should be given priority. Children have a special talent in mathematics, and such children have strong logical thinking ability. They need to be culturally infiltrated from an early age to ensure that they have a certain amount of reading time every day, form habits, and do everything possible to lay a good foundation for literature.
On the one hand, parents should lead their children to read and buy some famous books and children's books. For their children, as long as they are willing to study, try to satisfy them; On the other hand, parents can also take their children into the book city in their leisure time and let them choose their own books to read. Opening books is beneficial.
It is necessary to guide children to develop the habit of active thinking, the habit of completing homework independently, the habit of regular work and rest, the habit of strict self-discipline, the habit of regular exercise, and so on.
In the process of cultivating children's habits, parents should take the lead in setting an example instead of blindly asking their children what to do. Understand that the effect of "setting an example" is always better than "teaching by example". Say 1000, say 10000, it is better to show the children and take them to work.
If your child has a special talent in mathematics, how will you cultivate it? Welcome to pay attention and leave a comment.
