Hanshan Teachers College was founded in the 29th year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (1903). Its predecessor can be traced back to Hanshan Academy, which was established in Chaozhou in Song Dynasty to commemorate Han Yu, a great writer in Tang Dynasty. Han Yu was a secretariat of Chaozhou. It is the first normal school in China and the first school to train teachers in Guangdong.
