Mathematics Department of Nanjing University is a national base for training basic scientific research and teaching talents, and mathematics is a national first-class key discipline. The Department has trained world-class mathematicians such as Tian Gang and Dai Jiangang, as well as famous entrepreneurs such as Tao Jianxin, general manager of Chunlan Group. Former United Nations Under-Secretary-General Xie Qi Mei is also an outstanding friend of the Department of Public Information.
