We measure whether a person is smart, usually by IQ. The so-called IQ refers to people's thinking ability in numbers, space, logic, vocabulary and memory. Mathematics is an important part, and arithmetic is a part of mathematics.
Mathematics includes four abilities: logical thinking, number, space and memory, and arithmetic is only one of them. A person who is good at arithmetic may not have an advantage in future math study. It can only be said that from a certain point of view, this person is more sensitive to numbers, logical thinking is more meticulous, and may have a higher IQ. Because mathematics needs logical reasoning and judgment, fast calculation of numbers, spatial imagination and strong memory. So many people learn well, and physical chemistry will not be bad, because the abilities required by all subjects are basically the same. Therefore, people who are good at arithmetic may be smarter.
However, there is no direct connection between IQ and shrewdness. To measure shrewdness, we generally use emotional intelligence more.
Emotional intelligence consists of five characteristics: self-awareness, emotional control, self-motivation, cognition of others' emotions and handling of mutual relations. EQ emphasizes the ability to think and deal with problems at the interpersonal level.
EQ and IQ are not necessarily positively correlated. In other words, we will see that many people have a high level of learning, but they are not necessarily good at dealing with people. People will say that they are nerds, which is a sign of lack of emotional intelligence.
So people who are good at arithmetic are not necessarily smart.
