Chongqing University of Science and Technology, founded in 195 1, was established by Chongqing Municipal People's Government, China Petroleum and Natural Gas Group, China Petrochemical Group and China Offshore Oil Corporation. Mainly in engineering, featuring petrochemical industry, metallurgical materials, machinery and electronics, safety and environmental protection, covering science, engineering and environmental protection. The school was formed by the merger of Chongqing Institute of Technology and Chongqing Petroleum Institute in May 2004. The main campus is located in University Town, Shapingba District, Chongqing. It is the intellectual core of Chongqing Science City and an important hinterland for establishing a national (western) science and technology innovation center.
