Putian College is located in the southeast coast of Fujian, the hometown of Mazu, the goddess of maritime peace, and Putian, a famous hometown of overseas Chinese. Approved by the Ministry of Education in March 2002, it is a full-time undergraduate college led and managed by the Fujian provincial government, and implements a school-running system based on provinces and cities.

20 1 1 and 20 17 successfully passed the qualification assessment and audit assessment of undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of Education. The school has been rated as the patriotic education base of China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, the national greening model unit, the national advanced unit of national fitness activities, the advanced unit of mental health education of Chinese Psychological Association, the civilized school of Fujian Province, the safe campus and the garden-style unit of Fujian Province.

The school was formed by the merger of the former Putian College, the former Fujian Medical University Putian Branch and the former Putian Overseas Chinese Sports Normal School. The history of the school can be traced back to the training course for nurses attached to Xinghua Shengjiao Hospital founded by 1898.
