The discipline of probability theory and mathematical statistics of Nankai University belongs to the Department of Mathematics and Nankai Institute of Mathematics. 1987 was rated as a national key discipline, and 198 1 was awarded a doctorate, with a postdoctoral mobile station. This subject was rated as the key subject in Tianjin 1993.

The main research directions of this discipline are information science, Markov process and its application, digital signal processing, mathematical statistics and so on, and most of the research work is at the forefront of the discipline development. For example, the basic theoretical research on the combination of probability, information, logic, computer and artificial intelligence in information science is groundbreaking at home and abroad. Since 1950s, the research on Markov process and its application has been in a leading position in China. In an important field, such as multi-user coding theory and modern cryptography, multi-index Markov processes, super-processes, stochastic differential geometry, nonhomogeneous Markov chains and their applications, spectrum-limited signal extrapolation and median filtering. In recent years, the research results have reached the international advanced level. Significant achievements have also been made in the fields of statistical diagnosis, group inspection in quality control and experimental design. The research work of this topic has a wide practical background, so it not only has important theoretical significance, but also has a wide range of applications in various departments of the national economy.

Since 1987, it has completed 10 scientific research projects and is undertaking 1 1 scientific research projects, most of which are related to high technology.
