Why is the ancient imperial examination mathematical and physical?
Mathematics still existed in ancient times, only called "arithmetic" or "arithmetic" instead of mathematics. However, whether the imperial examination takes arithmetic depends on the period of the dynasty. For example, in the Tang Dynasty, poetry and songs were tested in the imperial examinations, but in the late Northern Song Dynasty and early Southern Song Dynasty, the imperial examinations were often taken because of the different situations faced by the country. When the country is in danger, it is natural to need these candidates to study the strategy of defending the enemy and governing the country. However, when the country is peaceful and the economy is developed, it is also possible to take economic exams and arithmetic as topics. So this can't be so absolute.
