Recently, the winners of the 2022 National Mathematical Modeling Competition for College Students were announced. The students of Wuhan Donghu College won the first prize and the national second prize with 1, ranking among the best in similar universities in Hubei Province.

The National Mathematical Modeling Competition for College Students was founded in 1992 and held once a year. It is one of the first 19 competitions listed in the list of subject competitions, ranking fifth in the list of subject competitions in colleges and universities in China, and has now become the largest and most influential basic subject competition in colleges and universities in China. In 2022, 1606 colleges/campuses and 54,257 teams from all over the country, Britain, Malaysia and other countries signed up for the competition.

During the competition, the contestants need to be within the prescribed scope.

Select a topic, analyze the topic within 3 days, establish a mathematical model through reasonable assumptions and use mathematical software to program and solve it, and finally submit a mathematical modeling paper with clear structure, neat layout and reasonable conclusion. The content of the competition involves economy, management, environment, resources, ecology, medicine, safety and other fields. According to the requirements of the competition, the members of Wuhan Donghu College worked hard in groups of three, analyzed practical problems with the help of mathematical knowledge and computer tools, and finally won the first and second prizes in the national competition.

The school attaches great importance to this competition, which is organized by the Basic Courses Department. Li Zhenhua, vice president, and the person in charge of the Academic Affairs Office visited the Basic Courses Department for many times to guide the preparation for the competition and cheer up the students. Since the contest was launched in May, through extensive mobilization, active organization, and layer-by-layer screening, 20 teams were finally identified. In order to better guide students to expand their knowledge of mathematical modeling and effectively improve their ability to solve problems, the Basic Courses Department organized participating teachers and students to stay in school for pre-competition training during the summer vacation, and invited a number of experts who deeply participated in mathematical modeling research and teaching inside and outside the school to hold a series of lectures.

This competition has improved students' logical thinking, innovative development and teamwork ability. The results of the competition fully reflect the outstanding achievements of the school in mathematics teaching reform. (Zhou Xue, Li Qian
