Steps:
1. Open word 2003 and select Insert → Object.
2. Switch to a new tab. Select the Microsoft Formula 3.0 option in the Object Type list, and then click OK, as shown.
3. Open the formula editing window and select the appropriate mathematical symbol (such as root sign) in the formula toolbar, as shown.
4. Enter a specific numerical value in the formula, then select the numerical value, and select the menu command "Size → Other Dimensions" in the menu bar. Open the Other Sizes dialog box, enter the appropriate numerical size in the Size edit box (it may take several attempts to determine the numerical size), and then click OK to finish.
Note: If you can't find the Microsoft Formula 3.0 option in the object type list of Word2003, you need to install the Formula Editor tool.
