1, basic information
Cuboid (also known as cuboid) is a regular quadrangular prism with rectangular bottom (or a regular parallelepiped with rectangular upper and lower bottom). It consists of six faces, the opposite faces are equal in area, and there may be two faces (four faces may be rectangular, or all six faces are rectangular) that are square.
2. Composition of cuboids
A plane polygon whose face encloses a closed geometry is called a polyhedron. A cuboid has six faces. In which each face is rectangular (there may be two opposite faces that are square) and there are three pairs of opposite faces. The opposite faces have the same shape and equal area.
The common edge of two faces on a polyhedron is called the edge of a polyhedron. A cuboid has 12 sides, among which there are 3 groups of opposite sides. The four opposite sides of each group are parallel to each other and have the same length (there may be 8 sides with the same length).
Vertices of a cuboid A cuboid has eight vertices, and the three sides that intersect at one vertex are called the length, width and height of the cuboid respectively. Generally speaking, the longer side of the bottom surface is called length, the shorter side is called width, and the side perpendicular to the bottom surface is called height.
Application of cuboid
1, the field of architecture and design
Architectural design: Cuboid is one of the commonly used geometric bodies in architectural design, which can be used to design various types of buildings, such as houses, office buildings and shopping malls. Through the combination and change of the three dimensions of length, width and height, various architectural spaces with different shapes and sizes can be created.
Interior design: Cuboid also plays an important role in interior design. Furniture, electrical appliances, decorations, etc. Can be designed into a cuboid shape, make full use of space, and achieve beautiful and practical effects.
2, scientific research and mathematics field
Scientific experiment: Cuboid is a geometric body with a certain volume and surface area, so it can be used to study various physical and chemical phenomena in scientific experiments. For example, a cuboid can be used to simulate the motion and vibration of an object.
Mathematical model: Cuboid is also one of the commonly used models in the field of mathematics. By studying the properties and characteristics of cuboids, students can better understand the concept of three-dimensional space and master the basic knowledge of geometry.
