Penglai Road No.2 Primary School has long adhered to "pragmatic innovation" and enjoyed a high reputation in Shanghai's education sector as early as the 1930s and 1940s. In 1950s and 1960s, the school paid attention to "laying a comprehensive foundation and carefully cultivating talents", and trained a large number of elites, which accumulated rich cultural details for the development of the school. In the 1980s and 1990s, in the wave of educational reform, the school boldly put forward that school education must attach importance to the development of students' personality, and carried out the overall experiment of "optimizing the educational environment and developing children's personality", which enhanced the value of school education in promoting people's healthy development and aroused widespread concern in the educational circles at that time. In recent ten years, around personality education, the school has persisted in the practice and research of "cultivating good personality, improving children's quality", "meeting different needs, promoting asynchronous development" and "optimizing educational resources and encouraging positive development".

Over the past 100 years, the school has trained a large number of useful talents for the society, including Zhu Jianhua, a famous high jumper who broke the world record three times, Huo Liang, the diving champion of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Yuan Ming, a famous TV host who won the "Golden Microphone" award, Wu Hong, who made his first expedition to the South Pole as a representative of the Chinese Young Pioneers, and Cao Lei, the lead singer of the cartoon "Sloppy King". The school has also trained a number of outstanding teachers, such as Ge, a special-grade teacher of Shanghai People's Congress, Feng Lizhen, a special-grade teacher of mathematics in famous primary schools, Shun, a junior teacher of Chinese in famous primary schools, and a model worker in Shanghai. In the past ten years, a group of young backbone teachers with comprehensive teaching strength have emerged in our school, including Gu Feng and Zhang Ying, the first prize winners of the video class of national mathematics classroom teaching, Shao Bin, Yang Jiehui, Unilateral, Zhang Yingying, Zhang Yujie, Chen Rihong, Rola Chen and so on.
