Mathematics Department of Tongji University was founded in 1945. Famous scholars such as Cheng Qixiang, Yang Wuzhi, Zhu Yanjun, Fan Yingchuan, Zhang Guolong and Lu Zhenbang once taught here, leaving outstanding teaching materials with national influence such as Advanced Mathematics. [ 1]

After liberation, the department was adjusted several times, sometimes intermittently. 1980, the department of applied mathematics was officially restored. [ 1]

In 2006, it was named the Department of Mathematics.

On July 5, 20 16, the College of Mathematical Sciences was established on the basis of the Department of Mathematics. [ 1]
