1985 On July 20th, Tibet University was born in Lhasa, the "sunshine city". It is the first comprehensive university in Xizang Autonomous Region. Its predecessor can be traced back to the "Tibet Military Region Cadre School" founded by 1952. With the development of revolution and construction in Tibet, it has been renamed Tibet Local Cadre School, Tibet Administrative Cadre School, Xizang Autonomous Region Normal School and Tibet Normal College. Tibet University shoulders the heavy responsibility of developing ethnic education in Tibet, so at present, it focuses on training teachers, and at the same time, it trains professionals who inherit and carry forward Tibet's excellent culture and art and develop Tibet's economy.

Tibet University has 7 departments, 16 professional and Tibetan teacher training departments. According to the needs of Tibet's construction, two majors, Tibetan-Chinese translation and Tibetan news, have been set up in adult colleges and universities in recent years.
