The main research directions are:

(1) Theory and technology of water resources regulation

This paper mainly studies the formation and transformation law of water resources, rational allocation, optimal dispatching and management of water resources, theory and technology of water resources evaluation and development and utilization, theory and technology of water resources balance analysis, ecological and environmental water demand, water resources management information system and so on.

(2) Effective utilization of water resources

This paper mainly studies the inferior water treatment technology, the principle and technology of precision irrigation, the optimal allocation mode and efficient utilization technology of multiple water sources, and the water resources management information system.

(3) Study on water environment in arid area.

This paper mainly studies the water environmental carrying capacity, ecological water demand, unconventional water utilization theory and technology, the influence mechanism of engineering construction on water and sediment circulation, the effectiveness of engineering water saving, the control and transformation of farmland water environmental quality, the law of farmland water and salt migration and the theory and technology of salinization control, and the water resources protection management system. The main research directions are:

Basic law and numerical simulation of sediment transport in Ningxia section of the Yellow River (1)

The mathematical model, prototype observation and field test are mainly used to study the flow movement, sediment transport and riverbed deformation in different sections of the Yellow River in Ningxia.

(2) Study on water temperature, ice flood and its numerical simulation in Ningxia section of the Yellow River.

The mathematical model of river water temperature is mainly used to study the ice flower, ice jam and ice flood in Ningxia section of the Yellow River every winter, in order to obtain some theoretical results and apply them to engineering practice.

(3) Study on numerical simulation of river dynamics and industrial water use in Ningxia.

This paper mainly studies the distribution and migration law and numerical simulation of water, sediment and water quality (compounds and pollutants) in unnatural rivers. The main research directions are:

(1) Foundation stability theory and structural design of hydraulic structures.

This paper mainly studies the loss of foundation bearing capacity and the stability of high and steep slopes under the action of dry-wet cycle and freeze-thaw cycle.

(2) Nonlinear theory and calculation method of hydraulic structure.

This paper mainly studies the nonlinear behavior and nonlinear analysis methods of hydraulic structures under the interaction of various factors, especially under dynamic loads, as well as the dynamic constitutive model and structural dynamic model analysis of concrete under impact loads.

(3) Theoretical study of special soil composite foundation.

This paper mainly studies the mechanical properties of composite foundation formed by seriously collapsible loess, high expansive soil and reinforcement (piles and geotextiles) widely distributed in Ningxia, such as bearing capacity, deformation, failure mechanism and mode, and the interaction law between superstructure and special soil foundation.

(4) Research on durability of hydraulic concrete and research and development of new hydraulic materials.

This paper mainly studies the characteristics, mechanism and production technology of composite concrete and composite cement mixed with different kinds and proportions of waste materials, as well as the frost resistance, impermeability and crack resistance mechanism, model and key technologies of water conservancy and hydropower buildings such as concrete channels, workshops and underground projects. The main research directions are:

(1) water-saving irrigation theory and technology

This paper mainly studies the application theory and key technologies of water-saving irrigation, such as inhibiting water surface evaporation, purifying water with high sediment concentration and inferior water treatment for micro-irrigation, greening in arid areas, vegetables in desert greenhouses, dry crops, characteristic crops (pressed melons, medlar and grapes) and rice sprinkler irrigation, drip irrigation and horizontal border irrigation, optimal utilization of water and fertilizer, decision support system for water-saving irrigation and optimal allocation of water resources, engineering technology, equipment and agricultural water saving.

(2) Water supply engineering theory and technology

This paper mainly studies the theory and application technology of water supply pumping station, water hammer analysis and calculation of pumping station and pipe network and its protective measures, water supply engineering system and its optimization, optimal design of long-distance water pipeline, optimal design and operation management mode of rural water supply engineering, etc.

(3)3S technology and its water conservancy informatization

This paper mainly studies the application of Global Positioning System (GNSS) in regional elevation fitting, small area control survey, water conservancy and hydropower engineering and other linear projects. Application of geographic information system and remote sensing in irrigation planning and irrigation distribution: automation and information technology of water conservancy and hydropower projects.
