Mathematics major was rated as the key major in the 12th Five-Year Plan of universities in Jiangsu Province. "Mathematical Analysis and Exercise Course" was rated as a national and provincial excellent course construction point; Advanced algebra and abstract algebra were rated as excellent courses in Jiangsu Province.

The School of Mathematical Sciences of Suzhou University has seven research institutions, including the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, the Department of Computational Science, the Department of Statistics and the Department of University Mathematics, as well as the Institute of Mathematics, the Institute of Applied Mathematics, the Center for Advanced Statistics and Econometrics, the Research Center for Financial Engineering, the Research Center for Design and Coding, the Research Center for Systems Biology and the Research Center for Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Studies.
At present, the college has two first-class disciplines, namely, basic mathematics, applied mathematics, computational mathematics, probability theory and mathematical statistics, operational research and cybernetics, and mathematics education, with six doctoral and master's programs, and statistics doctoral and master's programs.
