People's mathematical ability has a certain degree of heredity, but mathematical ability includes many different kinds of abilities, which belong to very complex characteristics. In a recent study published in the journal Gene, Brain and Behavior, scientists in China discovered several genetic variations that may be related to children's mathematical ability.

The researchers conducted a genome-wide association studies of 1 1 on the mathematical ability of 46 primary school students in China, and found that seven single nucleotide variations in the genome are closely related to mathematical and reasoning abilities. In the subsequent analysis, the researchers found that these three genes were significantly related to the mathematical ability of the three categories.

The variation of LINGO2 gene is related to subtraction ability, the variation of OAS 1 gene is related to spatial perception ability, and the variation of HECTD 1 gene is related to division ability. This study shows that different mathematical abilities may have different genetic basis. Different mathematical abilities may have different genetic basis. It is worth mentioning that from the perspective of genes, although genes play a certain role in the development of mathematical ability, it does not mean that genes determine a person's entire mathematical ability.
