Alice in Wonderland tells the story of a little English girl named Alice who accidentally fell into a rabbit hole in order to chase a talking rabbit with a pocket watch, thus entering a magical country and experiencing a series of fantastic adventures.
Alice in Wonderland is one of the most influential absurd novels in19th century. China writer Shen Congwen's novel Alice China's Travels, published in 1928, imitates the writing technique and style of this book.
Alice's creative background:
Lewis carroll, the author of Alice in Wonderland, was originally named Charles Lutwidge Dodgson. As an English writer in the19th century, he was also a church deacon and a math teacher at the Christian College of Oxford University. Besides Alice in Wonderland, she also wrote many mathematical works and prose works.
Alice's theme:
Although this fairy tale is full of absurd fantasies, the author deeply hints at the social reality of Britain in the middle of19th century. With what Alice has seen and heard, we can feel the etiquette and pedantic atmosphere of this era, such as the fear of the little hero's constant recitation of the text, and the mouse who is bent on showing off his historical knowledge but can only recite the textbook for a long time and doesn't even understand himself. These plots make readers feel that the education methods at that time were rigid and outdated. In fairy tales, Carol also satirized the pretentious gentleman rabbit, the snobbish and vulgar duchess, the arrogant and violent red queen and so on, and even satirized the Victorian court. All these make readers see seriousness from jokes and realize rationality from absurdity.
