In fact, Beijing International Mathematical Center was founded for Tian Gang's return to China. Now that Tian Gang has taken over as the dean of the School of Mathematics of Peking University, the center is actually useless. Think of China Economic Research Center of Peking University. Because the pit of the dean of the School of Economics was occupied, Lin Yifu came up with such a thing. One more thing, the difference between Beijing International Mathematics Center and China Economic Research Center is that most of the teachers in the Mathematics Center come from the Mathematics College.
Brief introduction of Beijing International Mathematical Research Center;
BICMR is an independent teaching and research unit in Peking University. Beijing International Mathematical Research Center is funded by the state, and is committed to training first-class mathematical talents for China and building a bridge for outstanding overseas scholars to return to China.
The goal of Beijing International Mathematical Research Center is to devote itself to the research on the frontier problems of mathematics, cultivate a new generation of outstanding mathematical talents, and provide conditions for promoting the exchange of mathematical ideas and achievements. The "Center" serves the mathematical circles at home and abroad, and encourages female scholars and minority scholars to devote themselves to mathematical research.
The construction of "Beijing International Mathematics Research Center" has been highly valued by the CPC Central Committee, relevant state departments and Beijing Municipality. In August 2004, the Central Organization Department took the lead in convening five ministries and commissions (Central Organization Department, Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Public Security) to discuss the establishment of a "Mathematics Center". In 2005, with the approval of National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Finance and National Cultural Heritage Administration, the construction project of "Beijing International Mathematical Research Center" was approved. According to the requirements of the National Development and Reform Commission, Peking University has repeatedly optimized and revised the construction plan under the guidance of the Beijing Cultural Relics and Planning Department. The current construction plan is submitted to the National Development and Reform Commission and relevant departments for approval again, which fully embodies the requirements of campus cultural relics protection and beautification.
Brief introduction of Peking University Institute of Mathematical Sciences;
Peking University Institute of Mathematical Sciences was established on the basis of 1995 Peking University Department of Mathematics and Department of Probability and Statistics. There are five departments of mathematics, probability statistics, scientific and engineering calculation, information science and financial mathematics, and three undergraduate majors of mathematics and applied mathematics, information and computing science and statistics. With complete disciplines, equal emphasis on teaching and scientific research, and simultaneous development of theory and application, it is a mathematical science research and talent training base with important international influence.
The current headmaster is Tian Gang, and the party secretary is Zhang.
Peking University Institute of Mathematical Sciences now has five departments: Mathematics Department, Probability and Statistics Department, Science and Engineering Computing Department, Information Science Department and Financial Mathematics Department. 1980, at the proposal of the late famous mathematician and educator Cheng Minde, the State Education Commission approved the establishment of Peking University Institute of Mathematics. Peking University Institute of Mathematics is closely integrated with the School of Mathematical Sciences, and a merged institution system is implemented. Peking University Institute of Mathematical Statistics merged with the Department of Probability and Statistics to implement the integrated system. 65438-0989, as a "key discipline development project" loaned by the World Bank, the Key Laboratory of Mathematics and Its Application was established. The Center for Mathematical Research and Higher Talents Training in Colleges and Universities is affiliated to the College of Mathematical Sciences. Editorial departments of national academic journals such as advances in mathematics, Approximation Theory and Its Application are also located in Peking University Institute of Mathematical Sciences.
Since 1978, Peking University Institute of Mathematical Sciences (including the former Department of Mathematics and the Department of Probability and Statistics) has sent more than 100 teachers to the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Australia, the former Soviet Union, Russia, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Japan, South Korea, Canada and other countries and countries. There are also dozens of people who go abroad for short-term visits and attend academic conferences every year. At the same time, many internationally renowned mathematicians are invited to give short-term lectures in the institute, with about 20 mathematicians every year. For example, famous mathematicians and Wolff Prize winners Chen Shengshen, Ito and Hezebrush, and famous mathematicians and Faldts Prize winners Qiu Chengtong and Smale were invited to give academic reports. Peking University awarded Chen Shengshen and Fan Tuji honorary professors, and invited Qiu Chengtong, Griffith, Lin Jiaqiao, Asano Nagaakira, De Haan and Zhou Xiuyi as visiting professors.
The above-mentioned way of sending out and inviting in enables the college to quickly understand the latest achievements and development trends of international mathematical science research and teaching, creates conditions for international academic exchanges and cooperation, and greatly promotes the scientific research level of the college.
