Mathematics folding problem in the first volume of the eighth grade
∑△AFE is formed by folding Rt△ADE.

∴△ADE≌△AFE,

∴AD=AF=BC= 10cm,DE=EF,

∠∠B = 90

∴ AB 2+BF 2 = AF 2 (Pythagorean Theorem)

AB = 8cm,AF= 10cm

∴BF=6cm

∴CF=BC-BF= 10-6=4cm,

Let CE=x,

Then EF=8-x,

At Rt△CEF,

EF^2=CE^2+CF^2,

That is, (8-x) 2 = x2+4 2,

64- 16x+x^2=x^2+ 16

16x=48

x=3cm。

∴EC=3cm
