The source of the stadium
There are different legends about the origin of the ancient Olympic Games. Most scholars believe that the ancient Olympic Games originated in 776 BC and were held every four years in summer. According to ancient Greek legend, around the 8th century BC, Heracles, king of Ailid, asked Dove, a priestess, for help in order to quell the conflict between the city-states. The priestess suggested that he hold a sports meeting in the name of praising Zeus, so that the city-states could live in peace. So Hercules chose Olympia as the place to host the first Olympic Games.
