The Business School of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is a research-oriented college. This is consistent with the founding purpose of the hospital. Since its establishment 20 years ago, the research results of the Institute have ranked among the top 30 in the world.
This college has become the first college in Asia to jointly organize degree courses with other top international business schools, which shows its position as a pioneer in teaching. The Economist rated the Kellogg University of Science and Technology executive MBA program as "the most successful joint executive MBA program in the world". Recently, the Institute and Stern School of Business of new york University jointly organized another Master of Finance program.
As always, no matter what courses students choose, the college is committed to creating a unique learning experience for students. The teaching focus of the college is to cultivate students' scientific logical analysis methods. The Business School of HKUST has six departments, namely: Accounting Department, Economics Department, Finance Department, Management Information System Department, Organizational Behavior Management Department and Marketing Department.
The students in the Business School of HKUST are divided into undergraduate students and graduate students. The proportion of undergraduates accounts for 40% of the total number of undergraduates, and the proportion of postgraduates is close to 30%. Accounting is an indispensable basic knowledge in all business activities, including financial reporting, valuation calculation and even company management. The Accounting Department of the Business School of HKUST is one of the two accounting courses certified by the International Business Administration Association, a well-known accounting certification institution outside North America, and the first accounting course certified by the famous Beta Alpha Psi Honorary Association outside North America. During the period of 1999-2000, the papers published by professors in our department in five major professional journals ranked first in the world, and students can directly benefit from this research result.

Economics is a social science, which studies how consumers, producers and other decision makers allocate resources effectively, and also analyzes production, consumption, investment, employment, trade and government policies. The focus of the bachelor of economics course is to study the external economic environment and internal operation of the company, and how to make effective analysis and business decision with economics.
After graduation, students have general knowledge of business and economy, and can join financial institutions such as banks, industry and commerce, education and government agencies to engage in administration, management, accounting and auditing. Students can also choose to continue their graduate studies.

Finance studies the allocation decisions of financial resources of individuals and companies. The bachelor of finance course has three key areas: corporate finance, investment and portfolio management, financial markets and financial institutions. Generally speaking, graduates will work in commercial banks, investment banks, insurance companies, accounting firms, management consulting companies, government agencies and enterprises of all sizes.
The Finance Department of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology has set up the Asia-Pacific Financial Market Center to develop a complete data and knowledge base for the study of Asian financial markets.
(5) Information system science
Information system makes enterprise management decisions through the application of information technology. The purpose of this course is to teach students the basic operation of business information system and cultivate their analytical ability in designing, implementing and managing business information systems. Students have more opportunities to participate in practical research and practical training in large institutions.

The credit system is adopted in the undergraduate course design of business schools. Chinese mainland students must complete at least 120 credits to qualify for a bachelor's degree.
