About the National English Test
According to the relevant regulations of the Examination Center of the Ministry of Education, since September, 2007, students in compulsory education stage are not allowed to take the national English examination, and test centers around the country are not allowed to accept students in compulsory education stage to sign up for the national English examination [1]. However, those who passed the written or oral examination in the first half of 2007 can register for the first half of 2008, and only those who failed or did not register for the written or oral examination in March 2007. There are no conditions for other candidates to apply for the exam, and they can also apply at different levels.

Examination content

The exam is divided into two parts: written test and oral test, including listening, language knowledge, reading, writing and speaking. Those who pass the written test and oral test will be awarded the National English Test Certificate by the Examination Center of the Ministry of Education. The certificate of conformity can be used as an authoritative proof of the English level of the holder; It can also provide a fair and unified evaluation scale for all localities and units to evaluate the English level of the talents they use.

Certificate description

Those who pass the oral and written tests can obtain the national English level examination certificate issued by the examination center of the Ministry of Education. The certificate is written in Chinese and English, and the ID number and photo of the holder are printed on the certificate.

If you only pass one of the oral or written tests, you can get the National English Proficiency Test Written Test Certificate or the National English Proficiency Test Oral Test Certificate issued by the Examination Center of the Ministry of Education. The certificate is printed with the holder's admission ticket number, ID number and photo.

75 days after the end of the exam, candidates can log in to the comprehensive inquiry network of the examination center of the Ministry of Education to inquire about the results, or they can pay for it by voice phone.

The time for issuing certificates and "transcripts" is about 75 days after the end of the exam. Candidates can log in to the "National English Test Beijing Registration System" or contact the test centers for confirmation. All the candidates who take the exam have a "notice of results"

Evaluation objective

PETS 1 is the initial level. Candidates who have passed this level of examination basically meet the basic needs of foreign exchange of taxi drivers, hotel bellboy, doorman, traffic police and other posts at the same level. Candidates at this level should be able to exchange simple information in familiar situations, such as asking or transmitting basic factual information, using basic grammar knowledge properly, and mastering words and related phrases around 1000.

PETS2 belongs to the middle and lower level. Candidates who pass this level of examination basically meet the requirements for further study in colleges and universities, and at the same time basically meet the basic needs of foreign exchanges at the same level as hotel receptionists, ordinary employees of banks and ordinary employees of foreign-related enterprises. Candidates at this level should be able to have simple conversations in familiar situations.

PETS3 is an intermediate level. Candidates who pass this level of examination can reach the graduation level of non-English majors in higher education self-study examination or meet the graduation requirements of non-English majors in colleges and universities, and basically meet the basic needs of administrative secretaries, assistant managers, junior scientific and technical personnel, employees of foreign companies and other work at the same level in foreign exchanges. Candidates at this level should be able to talk in most situations of life and work, demanding not only facts, but also abstract information, providing or demanding clearer explanations. At the same time, they can eloquently express simple opinions and attitudes, properly use basic grammar knowledge, and master about 4,000 words and related phrases.

PETS4 is the upper-middle level, and the English level of candidates who pass this level examination basically meets the learning needs of non-English majors in colleges and universities, and basically meets the basic requirements of ordinary professional and technical personnel or scientific researchers, modern enterprise managers and other positions for English. Candidates at this level should be able to participate in the discussion of general or professional academic topics, asking not only facts but also abstract information. Be able to demonstrate the correctness of a viewpoint and explain a problem, a process or an event in detail. In addition, I can explain a general problem or a problem familiar with the field, use basic grammar knowledge properly, and master about 5500 words and related phrases.

PETS5 is the highest level, and the English level of candidates who pass this level of examination basically meets the needs of studying non-English majors or engaging in academic research abroad. This level of English can also meet their basic needs for professional and management work at home and abroad. Candidates at this level should be able to talk and discuss freely on various topics. I can have in-depth and extensive communication with others on many aspects of my work, have an effective debate, clearly state my needs, properly use basic grammar knowledge, and master about 7000 words and related phrases.

These five levels of examination standards are all based on the same ability scale, and there are obvious differences and internal relations between them. PETS comprehensively examines the listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities of candidates. PETS aims at mastering a foreign language, and divides language competence into "acceptance", "output" and "interaction". According to various situations and tasks, under specific themes and texts, teaching or examination is carried out in combination with relevant language behaviors.

Grading

PETS- 1: the first level is the primary level, and its examination requirements are slightly higher than the English level of junior high school graduates (PETS- 1B is the subsidiary level of the national English level examination).

Pets-2: The second level is the lower level, which is equivalent to the English level of outstanding graduates of ordinary high schools (the qualified written test scores of this level can replace the English test scores of self-taught college (I) and diploma exams).

Pets-3: Level 3 is an intermediate level, which is equivalent to the level of China students who have studied English in colleges and universities for two years after graduating from high school or have taught themselves English courses of the same level. (The qualified written test scores at this level can replace the English (II) test scores at the undergraduate stage of the self-study exam. )

Pets-4: CET-4 is the upper-middle level, which is equivalent to the level of China students who have studied English for at least 3-4 years at university or have taught themselves English courses of the same level after graduating from high school.

Pets-5: Band 5 is the highest level, which is equivalent to the level of college English majors in China at the end of the second year. It is an English proficiency test specially designed for those who apply for public study abroad.

Inspection method

Inquiry time: In principle, it starts 40 days after the exam.

Inquiry method: candidates must enter the admission ticket number according to the voice instruction before they can get the results.

Fractional weight

PETS Grade 1 to Grade 5 exams all adopt the method of score weighting, that is, different weights are given to the original scores of each part of the topic, so as to balance the investigation relationship of various skills. The scope of application of test scores at all levels is given in the PETS grade description, which is only for the reference of candidates and users of test scores.

The examination center of the Ministry of Education is responsible for explaining the PETS examination level at all levels; The right to use candidates' scores is in the admissions department or the employer.

As a social test, PETS does not have the function of evaluating the English teaching level in ordinary middle schools and universities. Refusing to provide candidates' scores to the teaching or counseling units of candidates. No one is allowed to use the results of this test to evaluate and interfere with the normal English teaching in schools, and no one is allowed to use the results of PETS test to replace the English final exam in ordinary middle schools and universities.

The validity period of PETS test scores at all levels is determined by the admissions department or the employer.

Those who have passed the written test of PETS-2 can learn English by themselves without taking the test. Those who pass the CET-3 written test can be exempted from the English self-study test (II). Candidates who can be exempted from taking English (2) can also be exempted from taking English (1).

Matters needing attention

1. Candidates fill in the registration card or provide relevant information in other forms according to the requirements of the registration point, and perform various procedures as required. Then get the admission ticket and the examination notice at the time and place designated by the local examination institution, otherwise you will still be unable to take the examination. Candidates should carefully check the information on the admission ticket when registering, and request to change the registration point in time if there are any mistakes.

2. The day before the exam, it is best for candidates to get familiar with the examination room at the examination place arranged in the exam notice.

3. During the examination, candidates should strictly abide by the candidates' code and follow the guidance of invigilators. Those who violate the examination regulations will have their examination results cancelled.

4. Before the exam, candidates must prepare a black pen and a 2B pencil. Other types of pens are not allowed in the exam.

5. The registration place for Level 1 B(PETS 1B)- Level 4 (PETS 4)*** Level 5 examination shall be decided by the educational examination institutions of all provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government. Please consult them for the specific registration time and place. The registration place of the fifth level (PETS 5, the original WSK-EPT) is in WSK test sites all over the country.

6. Candidates for the 6.PETS exam are not restricted by regions and can apply for exams across regions.

7. Candidates should take the exam on time. Candidates for written examination will be admitted from 8:30, and will not be admitted after 8:45. Candidates who are interviewed in the morning will be admitted from 8:30, and will not be admitted after 9:00. Candidates who are interviewed in the afternoon will be admitted from 13:30, and will not be admitted after 14:00.

8. When taking the exam, candidates must enter the exam with valid documents such as admission ticket, notice of the exam, ID card (or ID number certificate issued by the public security household registration department, minor household registration book, and certificate of military armed police personnel) or passport, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan resident ID card. Three certificates are indispensable.

Preparation before exam

Because the examination room is randomly selected, some candidates are prone to be late. The admission time for the PETS exam is 8: 45 in the morning. After that, you can't enter, so candidates must pay attention and don't be late. It is recommended to go out one hour in advance, or go to the examination room to explore the situation a few days in advance.

Candidates also need to pay attention to the dress of the day, especially in summer. Some male students wear thick clothes and keep sweating before starting the exam, which will inevitably affect their mood during the exam. Some female students are dressed too lightly, which may affect the examiner's evaluation of the overall impression of their oral test. In addition, through years of teaching and invigilation experience, pets teacher of New Oriental reminds students that stationery should be well prepared on the day of the exam. Some candidates raised their hands and asked the teacher if there were any extra pencils before the exam. If the exam is affected by these unexpected situations, it will not be worth the loss. I suggest you prepare two 2B wooden pencils instead of mechanical pencils. Ballpoint pens and pens should also be tried in advance. I want to remind you in particular that the correction fluid can't be used in the PETS exam. If a student uses correction fluid, his paper will be considered invalid.

Examination skills

A few minutes before the listening test, the teacher will hand out the test papers. At this time, some students will start to do multiple-choice questions or reading questions in a hurry. In fact, at this time, we should have a good look at the listening questions and get familiar with the scenes to be tested in the listening test. Adequate preparation is of great benefit to the listening test.

If you encounter a question that you didn't hear clearly, candidates can consider giving up this question and concentrate on the next one. Don't stare too hard at a topic, which will affect the performance behind, and let small questions ruin your test mood.

The order of answering questions should be skillful, and you should learn to get high marks. For example, level 2, the first choice is multiple choice, and then cloze. Many students spend their time in cloze. In fact, this part of the score is very small. What really widens the gap with the majority of candidates is reading! Instead of spending half an hour doing cloze, take some time to have a good look and review the reading questions carefully.

Some students won't do composition in the end because they don't have enough training at ordinary times. I suggest that before preparing for the exam, you can prepare several common types of compositions, such as two-level letter composition and three-level icon composition. In this way, when it comes to the real exam, you can be confident.

The oral exam is still very subjective. In addition to your own oral quality, you often depend on the teacher's impression of you, which is very similar to the intermediate and advanced interpretation test. The examiner can't 100% focus on every word of every student, and finally give the overall impression score of the candidates.

PETS exam candidates can let you pass as long as they reach 3 points or more. So, when you come in, give the teacher a smile and say good morning. These little moves are your "extra points" behavior.

There will be some candidates in every exam, and they will take the exam directly without any training. Most of these candidates want to take a chance and see if they can pass the grade.

According to the examiner's experience, such candidates generally have written tests, but when it comes to oral tests, most of them can't even understand the obvious questions. Therefore, I suggest that before the oral exam, whether you have attended a training class or not, you should at least know the type and process of the exam.

In the second level oral examination, the examiner met such a student. When he entered the examination room, he said to the examiner in English, "My English is very poor. Can we talk directly without making this form? " Of course, this is impossible. The examination is based on justice. Don't think you can pass such an exam by luck.

Finally, candidates remember, don't say a word, as long as you speak, there will still be a little score. Even if you don't speak well, you should speak.

In addition, the whole oral examination process may make candidates nervous. Some candidates keep wiping their sweat, stuttering or even breaking sentences, and even the examiner has no patience to finish listening. Candidates are advised to take a deep breath to keep themselves relaxed. Although there is a time limit for each oral part, as long as you can speak your answers confidently and communicate with your partner naturally, you won't lose many points.
